
I listened to the Resilient Mind podcast by a Jim Rohan. Thought it was valuable lesson for a successful life.
1 Be a student not a follower
2 take advise not orders (only give yourself orders)
3 make sure what you do is a product of your own conclusion (debate them than decide)
What’s best for you
4 Five major pieces to the life puzzle: usually half dozen solutions to any problem. Give you an 80% solution to a problem. Be student of those half dozen solutions!
5 Success is not doing extraordinary things. It’s doing ordinary things extraordinary well!
Learn to do things well, speaking, writing sailing, teaching, cooking do them well! Learning a skill with high degree of precision. Learning to speak is survival but learning to speak well is success.
Let’s look at fundamental pieces to life’s puzzle;
1 Philosophy what you know and what you don’t know greatly affects how your life works out. Ideas you miss like missing the numbers you’re trying to put in a lock. What you don’t know might hurt you.
We have to weigh what we know. Weigh everything you know before you do anything. Before you buy it, before you try it, got to decide if it’s a major or a minor decision. Therefore don’t give something insignificant your time and energy.
Weigh before you pay 💰 we all need a good set of mental scales to weigh everything. What if insignificant things to you could be actually significant. Wouldn’t that be a major handicap for the rest of your life. Weigh important things as unimportant we’d say that was a great handicap.
Why it’s important to have good teachers professors and mentors who help give you good guidance in life. Even from a very young age. This is why it’s important to read about philosophy and great individuals who made a difference to the world. Why? Because they’re inspirational individuals. With great depth and foresight. To help us to take the best path in life. Knowing when to immediately cut our losses and put it down to experience not to be repeated again. Unfortunately some of us never learn and have a tendency to repeat the same old mistakes.
You don’t want to give big chunks of your life to something that’s insignificant or makes you unhappy.
We get information so we have to weigh it and come to conclusions about its value. Big question in life what are values? What is important, so I can give significant energy, money and time. All this is part of our thinking process. Poor thinking habits keep most people poor. Interesting concept? People can work hard but they don’t like to think hard! They don’t think hard or use their minds to perceive the values of their time and money. It’s easy to spend a big chunk of your time on insignificant things. Unless you can weigh it better in your mind.
One of the major pieces of the life puzzle is what you think about.

Thinking if you want to really change someone’s mind you have to get them to change their minds and change their philosophy. Change how they think.🤔 That’s not so easy with hard wired minds.
However it’s easy to make errors in judgement. It’s always about perceiving what’s important or unimportant in life. I guess the secret in life is to keep constantly learning!
What if you spend money on cigarettes or alcohol instead of books or even fancy holidays? We would be deprived mentally! Self education should be ongoing throughout one’s life. Self education helps us to refine our decision making processes! More importantly helps us come to better conclusions. We must keep up the learning process throughout our lives!
Life is accumulated be it money and self education. Good decision making processes. Yes we make mistakes could be with investments relationships friendships stagnant careers. To stretch oneself we have to feel fear in the gut! Learn to conquer your inner fears to build character and inner strength. Most important of accumulation is having excellent health and maintaining throughout one’s life. Good health is priceless no money accumulated in the world will suffice for excellent health! Keep learning so you can do wise things with your time energy and resources.
Throughout life maintain good physical health. That will help you live a long healthy life! How do you maintain good physical health? It’s a holistic process, first the thinking process, do not dwell on negatives. Try not live or work in a highly stressed environment, exercise regularly, eat good wholesome food, eat small portions , drink alcohol moderately, refrain from smoking any substances and the taking of non prescription drugs, get plenty of sleep, be frugal with your finances . Have a purpose to your life.
Do wise things with your resources as soon as you get better information. You can’t do what you don’t know the key is to keep learning. Good ideas keep occurring so you can do more wise things with your resources.
But philosophy where it all begins with what you know. To know wise things you have to study keep up the reading listening to interesting educational podcasts and videos.
Keep making notes which is a way to accumulate wise information. Make 10 point plans where you want your life to take you. Might be starting a new business idea! I’d love to work for myself and I see a gap in the market place. Maybe help people to become successful YouTube entrepreneurs?
With your philosophy have a continuous flow of ideas. First piece of the life puzzle is philosophy!
Philosophy determines attitude.
2 Attitude is simply how you feel. First what you know sets the sail of your life. Here’s one attitude “the pay is not good so I’m not going to start early or stay late!” If you go through your life with that attitude wouldn’t that greatly affect it?
Another on attitude “no matter what they pay I always come early and I always stay late to invest in my own future.” Therefore attitude is a choice. To make wise choices we need an educated attitude.
Emotions must go to school to learn where the values are. You have to learn to control your emotions. I had a member of the family I called Vesuvius never knew when her emotions would erupt. I bought her a book called the Chimp Syndrome:
Chimp syndrome\” refers to a psychological model that describes the brain as having three parts: the impulsive and emotional \”chimp,\” the logical \”human,\” and the \”computer\” which stores beliefs. When under pressure, the faster, more primitive \”chimp\” can take over, leading to irrational or impulsive behavior before the \”human\” can analyze the situation logically. Understanding this concept, as outlined in The Chimp Paradox by Steve Peters, can help individuals manage emotional reactions and improve performance.
Let’s face it we constantly read about humans who embark on irrational and impulsive behaviours which eventually destroy them and people around them. It’s why certain leaders of nations destroy the well being of their nations with complete irrational behaviours. I could write a long list of such individuals. Which happens with ordinary mortals equally everyday of the week. They’re on self destruct mode of lifestyle and thinking! The Chimp Syndrome makes me think aren’t we really naked apes? However humans have mentally capacity to control their irrational impulses through mental discipline.
Therefore attitude is about educated choice. How we feel is going greatly influence our lives.
A) How you feel about the past, we have wins and losses in life some tough things to deal with. It’s how you deal with the past are attitude to it. Some keep carrying the burden of their past. Affected by past difficulties and they carry it around with them like a big heavy bag of regrets!
Instead of using the past as a school of life, they’re using it as a threat to their lives! The secret is solving your attitude to the past and how you feel about it.
B ) How do you feel about the future. Facing the future is very important key to the part of our lives. Two ways to face the future one; Anticipation. Other way apprehension. Most people face the future with apprehension. Primarily because they’ve bought someone’s else’s view. They don’t have their own future well designed. If yours is not well designed you can be persuaded to buys someone’s else’s future.
How you feel about the future greatly determines what you do. If you don’t have defined goals for your future you can take uncertain steps. Difficult to be confident about the future if you don’t have your goals set and defined. So important to write down your goals which defines your future. Where do you want to go what do you want to do what do you want to be what do you want to see what do you want to have what do you want to share design your future! 😊
Even if it all changes in 12 months from now the key is to start making a list now! The cities or countries you’d like to visit the people you’d like to meet. Your health goals your investment goals. All that stuff put down in a journal so many times per week.

Renew your goals what seems important now may not be so important in 12 months time. However that said it’s important to have a dream goal an ultimate one like sailing around the world. Or meeting a beautiful partner inside and out! Rarity 🤭!
How did I think that was so important because you might grow beyond that goal. There again you might not? Your goals are personal to you and no one else.
Right now it’s good to get clear picture of your future. Visualisation very important here with goal setting. Visualise your goal each day yes like sailing you might be blown off course by adverse winds but you’ll find favourable winds along the way and you’ll get right back on track to your ultimate goal. Set your dreams set your goals! How your days go is about your confidence about your future!
Another attitude is about how you feel about each other. How you feel about society and the community and your country. Very important it’s quite easy to be a cynic. And cynicism greatly influences how your life works out! It’s important to understand to do well it takes all of us to help each other to achieve each of our potentials! How do we do that by being kind and helpful with each other. It takes all of us to help each other to do well! You can’t succeed by yourself it’s hard to find a rich hermit 🫢. But you never know one might be out there remember Howard Huges the oilfield and aerospace magnet. He became a wealthy hermit because he was frightened of human viruses 🦠! 🤣
Can’t succeed by yourself you need a market a society. We need each other’s collective ideas. Collective participation in the market place. In a society! How we feel about each other is very important.
How do you feel about yourself Self Esteem. Understanding your own value all you need is some coaching some advice some help. Older ones of us have been down these roads ourselves. Analogylike walking through a forest you get to an intersection now what path should I take? You walk off down a path check your compass and think this seems to be veering off course. Go another 15 minutes see if it turns back on course. No it’s going the wrong way. Stop retrace your steps back to the intersection take next path seems to follow the compass course. This is life at points in your life you think I’m not on the correct path to happiness and self fulfilment . Like taking a route the bridge is out or maybe a negative comment that’s a risk is too dangerous or place to visit or thing to do! Or maybe they have good sound experience to make a short cut to your goal?
Self esteem is engaging in the disciplines that lead to value. To bring value from potential we need discipline. What makes not feel good about ourselves is not engaging in the disciplines. Keep letting things slide and not maintaining a daily discipline then you don’t feel good about yourself. You know what you need to do simply do it and not let it slide. With discipline and a plan you can achieve anything! Always do the best you can and that builds confidence and self esteem.
Attitude plays an important part in 5 pieces of the life puzzle.
3 Activity is what you do, success is about doing. So how hard should work when you Labour? When you try to be successful in the market place? How many days should you spend? Old Testament philosophy 6 days work one days rest. What should be work to test activity? 6/1 or 5/2 or 4/3 be better? I mean you got to check everything? Don’t rest too long. Don’t rest too long because it’s push shove world! We live in conflict world between good and evil, conflict between health and sickness. Health is the conquering the encroachment of sickness. Make rest a necessity not an objective! The objective of life is not to rest but to accomplish. Full growth to test the outer limits of your ability. See what you can do with your talents and skills this what life is all about! People who live mediocre lives always looking for days off. Successful people are always looking forward to getting on! They rest only enough to gather strength. What ever you do in life do it with all your might. Called philosophy on activity.
How hard should you work as hard as you can! 😊in the time allotted to Labour. When you work, work and when you play, play. Don’t play at work! If you enjoy your work it doesn’t seem like work. More like a pleasure. That’s why it’s important to enjoy what you do. If you don’t then you’re doing the wrong thing with your life. Simple philosophy is do the best you can. You’ll earn a good income from doing your best but you’ve got work smart doing your best. By doing your best you don’t have to win any prizes it’s something you know inside that makes you feel good. I call it the warm glow in the pit of your stomach.
4 Results putting first three together, philosophy, attitude and activity to get the ultimate results. Results is the name of the game. The challenge in life is to make reasonable progress. Measurable progress in reasonable time. Make demands on yourself. You’ve got to be busy doing the right things!
5 life style how you choose to live. The genius of living well. Money without style. Happiness is an art culture is a refinement of the mind. Challenge how to be happy with what you got while you pursue what you want. Find ways to live uniquely. Look back on the 5 puzzles of life keep checking them regularly to see if you’re on track to achieve your goals.
