The Bike
Mityata Signature touring bike I bought last year from an Edinburgh cycle store which was second hand. It was built in collaboration with Japanese frame manufacturer Mityata and a Dutch bike company Koga.
I came across the Koga bike after a talk by a young Scottish endurance cyclist who used a Koga Mityata aluminium framed world touring bike for his first solo unsupported around the world trip in 2008.
As I previously mentioned I bought this bike in July 2020. It’s not folding bike but originally I didn’t have it mind to carry onboard Stella Polaris.
When I was working over near Manchester I used it everyday to cycle to from my digs in Stockport to work and back to digs again. I found it a lovely bike to ride what makes it special is the German Rohloff Speedhub gears. Which is beautifully reliable 14 gear internal hub gear system.
I was thinking of selling the bike and buying a folding one but after an near on calamity with eBay last year when my reserve price didn’t kick I thought something or someone is trying to stop me selling this bike?
The number of strange things happen to me prior to my serious accident in 2012. I had lots of warning signs, which my inner self didn’t respond or listen to! After that I’m much more tuned in to things that causes blockages or issues. Now I stop and think “something it is trying to tell me something”. I thought this is the bike for me and my sailing kayaking world touring expedition. Even if it’s not a folding bike I’ll get my Koga bike onboard by hook or by crook!
Mark Beaumont Koga Signature world traveller bike world adventure in 2008 it’s an amazing story and he’s an amazing guy.

Finally I don’t think I’ll be doing any ultra long distance cycling like Mark at my age but you never know with me? Finally this adventure of mine to circumnavigation the world is really at deeper level concerning the nature of climate change. I want to record what I see at sea and on land his higher temperature will effect every part of the biosphere. Insect life natural habitation farming and the movement of people.
